This tour takes visitors to the former prelature. In the 1830s, it was converted into a chateau by the Prince Metternich. The tour gives you the opportunity to explore and experience the authentic historical interior on your own, without a guide. You can also visit the garden.
The tour route presents an authentic rural residence of the higher nobility after 1870 in the form of a self-guided tour. Visitors can obtain information about the use of the residence and the Metternich family through accompanying texts and audio recordings, which are also available in English.
The last visitors will be admitted to the tour route no later than when the ticket office closes, and they can remain inside for another 60 minutes.
The tour leads up the grand staircase to the former abbot's hall and on to the small dining room, then to the salon and through the study to the private rooms of the nobility. From there, visitors can walk through to the area intended primarily for the servants. Finally, they return to the great hall via the service corridor.
Tickets for the tour of the Metternich Residence can be purchased online or on site in the ticket office.
